THE VILULA TEA GARDEN

...it was a little tea room in my memories...ladies wearing white gloves and pretty hats; soft and mended old linens on the tables; and heirloom roses in crystal vases....lovely.

Here's a recipe from "the little kitchen" blog that I am going to try in the new future!  I love my Crock-pot and am always looking for recipes for it...i also love roast chicken and have given my grocery store lots of money over the year for the deli lemon-pepper ones!

Whole Chicken in a Slow Cooker
Yield: 6
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 8 hours
Total Time: 8 hours 10 min
ingredients:
Rub Ingredients
4 tsp salt
2 tsp paprika
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp white pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp black pepper
3 1/2 to 4 1/2 lbs roasting or fryer chicken
1 cup chopped onion, approx 1 medium to large onion
4-5 carrots, scrubbed, no need to peel, chopped in halves or thirds
4 celery stalks, cut in thirds
2 garlic cloves, peeled and smashed
1 lemon quartered
directions:
Combine rub ingredients in a small bowl.
Remove chicken from packaging and remove neck and pouch with organs. Discard or reserve for later use in another recipe. Rinse chicken and pat dry with paper towels.
Rub garlic all over outside of the chicken. Put garlic inside the chicken. Rub the rub all over the outside and inside the chicken. Add quartered lemon to the inside of the chicken.
Place onions, carrots and celery inside the slow cooker. Place chicken on top of the vegetables. Cover slow cooker and cook chicken on low for 4-8 hours. (When I used a 4 lb chicken, it took about 6 hours. The time will depend on the size of the chicken and your slow cooker.) Cook until the internal temperature of the leg is at 160 degrees F or use a pop-up thermometer as the original recipe calls for.
Remove chicken and place in a 9x13 glass baking dish. Place baking dish in the oven under the broiler for about 4-5 minutes. Allow chicken to rest after removing it from the broiler for 5-10 minutes.

Spring Cleaning and Re-doing!

Well, I am in a flutter of cleaning out, re-doing, and de-junking (haha just to add more junk, of course!)...We have lived in this house 17 years and for a clutter-holic that's a LOT of junk! Anyway...our local One Roof thrift shop helps people in need with all kinds of items, including food, so my beloved 'stuff' is going to a good home!

We just bought a new couch in a beautiful red/paprika color...I love this tutorial of a really pretty pillow by Show Tell Share by Dora Moreland at http://showtellshare.blogspot.com/2011/06/pin-tuck-wave-pillow.html...I think I will make it in my colors! We have a great room so the kitchen/dining/seating area is all together...I have Fiesta-ware, so it's pretty colorful...

What about you? What are you doing to invite Spring into your home?

Hankie Couture

If you love vintage hankies, you will fall in love with this book...Marsha Greenberg makes the most amazing, perfect little outfits for her custom dolls. Check out the video below for an interview and a peek inside of her amazing studio!

I absolutely adore hankies and have been collecting them for years...some of my favorites were given to me by one of my Mother's oldest friends, Mary! I love the material they are made of, the craftsmanship, the colors...I just can't get enough of them...I put them on clothes, drape them on curtains, hoard them in a drawer and take them out one by one and just admire them! I also love toys and their faces...as the Marsha mentions in this video, but that's for another post. I hope you enjoy this...just a peek of some of my quirky favorite things!

Easter

Crucifixion was the most shameful and painful way to execute a criminal. Roman citizens ordinarily were not crucified. In fact, crucifixion was never mentioned in polite society, so degrading was this form of capital punishment. Jesus was led outside the city to the place of execution.

“They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him. And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” They spat on Him, and took the reed and began to beat Him on the head. After they had mocked Him, they took the scarlet robe off Him and put His own garments back on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.” – Matthew 27:28-31

“Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate.” Hebrews 13:12

Jesus took all of this humiliation and pain without speaking or fighting back. His submission was not a sign of weakness; it was a sign of strength. Thanks to the Father and His supreme sacrifice of His Son for our sins, we can have everlasting life...
